A man has been charged in the 2007 fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy who was
killed during an argument in the city's South Chicago neighborhood.
Carl Morris, 28, of the 600 block of Harrison Drive in Quincy, was charged
Thursday night with first degree murder in the May 23, 2007 slaying of Dante
Atkins.
Shortly after 2 a.m. that day, Morris got in an argument with Atkins on the
7900 block of South Paxton Avenue.
At some point during the quarrel, Morris shot Atkins in the chest. Atkins, of
the 8000 block of South Merrill Avenue, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he
was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m.
A warrant naming Morris was issued and he was arrested Thursday in Quincy,
Ill.,
