Two Chicago men have been charged in connection with the death of a 20-year-old man, who was shot in late 2011 on the South Side and died early the next year.
Robert Goodman, 20, of the 6200 block of South Bishop Street, and Demetrius Spencer, 21, of 7700 block of South Claremont Avenue each, were charged with first-degree murder in the death of Bernard Welch, of the 7700 block of South Wolcott Avenue.
Goodman, Spencer and two other individuals approached Welch on Nov. 30, 2011, in the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue,.
Spencer allegedly fired a .45-caliber handgun, striking Welch in the chest, neck and leg. Goodman acted as a lookout during the shooting,.
A witness heard gunshots and saw the defendants fleeing the scene. Welch was taken to a hospital and died from his wounds on Jan. 9, 2012
