Police have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a man who had been impaled by a fence post Sunday night during a fight near his Burnside neighborhood home on the South Side.
An autopsy Monday determined Edward James Scott, 48, of the 9100 block of South Greenwood Avenue, died of head injuries and impalement on a fence post during an assault. Scott's death was ruled a homicide.
Scott became involved in a dispute about 8 p.m. Sunday with unknown individuals near his home. One of the people approached and struck him in the head, causing him to fall onto a fence post which pierced his eye socket, he then fell to the ground, suffering blunt trauma to the head.
