Charges filed in 2011 Roseland slaying

A 34-year-old Zion man turned himself in to police this week and was charged with murder in the fatal beating and stabbing of a Far South Side man in December 2011
Michael Shegog was booked into Cook County Jail on Wednesday and is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
 Shegog, of the 2800 block of Elisha Avenue in far north suburban Zion, was charged with murder in the death of Karrieem Dixon, a 55-year-old Roseland neighborhood man who was beaten and stabbed on Dec. 18, 2011.
 According to a police report, Shegog entered the Calumet District police station on Tuesday and told authorities there he was wanted on a warrant for homicide. After police ran his name and found he had two active warrants, for the murder and a probation violation.
 Dixon, 55, was found in his home in the 200 block of West 115th Street by police after the man's mother waved down police after not hearing from him for several days.
The man's mother informed police that she was concerned because she had last heard from her son on Dec. 15, 2011 at about 5 p.m. and asked police to go into the man's home to make sure he was healthy.
At about 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 18, 2011, police went into the man's home and found his body on the floor outside a bedroom.
 An autopsy Dec. 19, 2011 determined that Dixon died of multiple stab and incised wounds and blunt force injuries. The office ruled the man's death a homicide.
There was no indication Dixon was robbed and there were no indications of forced entry into the home
