A 6-month-old girl and her father who was changing the child's diaper were
seriously wounded this afternoon in a drive-by shooting outside a home on the

rang out around 12:45 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Maryland Avenue in the
The father, 28, was changing the girl's diaper when the attacker came up from
the gangway or alley on the west side of the street, near where the van was
parked, and started shooting.
The van's passenger side front door was open because the father was standing
outside the car while changing the diaper.
The baby was shot in the right shoulder, suffering a through-and-through
wound, and a bullet was lodged in her left thigh. She was
undergoing surgery at Comer Children's Hospital, according to the family.
The father was shot in the left side, the right buttocks, and suffered a
graze wound to his left cheek. He was taken to Northwestern
Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, according to Fire Department
spokesman Will Knight.
The shooter fled through a nearby open lot, then got into a blue conversion
van, which sped away north in the alley
