Five people were robbed and one woman was sexually abused at gunpoint during
three separate attacks that occurred within a short time of each other early
Friday on the North Side.
At 12:08 a.m. Friday
police responded to call of an armed robbery at Touhy Avenue and Sheridan Road
in the Rogers Park neighborhood, where the victim said he’d been walking home in
the 1400 block of West Estes Avenue when an unknown man behind him called out
“Hey, slow down, wait up,’’ .
The victim kept
going but the man got closer and said to him: “Give me your stuff,’’ while
brandishing a gun.
The victim dropped his backpack,
which contained a white shirt, an apron, dress shoes, a cell phone and $147
cash.
After demanding that the victim start running, he
shouted at him: “Remember, Salty did this to you,’’ the report said. The man
then contacted police.
In the Lakewood-Balmoral neighborhood about 12:10
a.m. police were flagged down by three women who said they’d just been robbed at
gunpoint in the 1200 block of West Berwyn Avenue, .
The women
told police they’d been walking home east on Berwyn after visiting a nearby
comedy club when a man emerged from behind a dumpster and pointed a gun at them,
demanding their purses.
He told them to “get down on
the ground’’ as he went through their handbags, taking $26, student ID cards,
state IDs and one older-model cell phone.
After he took the cell, he
reached over and groped one of the victims while making a suggestive comment.
The women saw him get into a dark-colored, late model
vehicle being driven by another man, and the victims waited a few minutes before
getting up and running to Broadway where they waved down officers, who put out a
flash message with the description of the two men.
One was described as
a black man in his early 20s, 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11, wearing a black hooded
sweat shirt with gray pants, and carrying a black gun.
In another attack blocks away reported at 12:17 a.m., a man had been walking home
in the 1300 block of West Winnemac Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood when a man
approached him from behind, pushed him to the ground, and screamed: “Give me
your phone!’’
.The assailant pulled out a gun, pointed it at the man’s face and grabbed the
cell phone from the man’s hand and his wallet from his pocket. The victim then
saw the man enter an SUV at Winnemac and Glenwood.
It
was not known if the robberies were committed by the same person or persons.
