24-year-old man struggled with a robber before getting shot in the leg a block
from the city's 911 call center just before midnight Wednesday.
The robbery happened about 11:55 P.M. in the 1500 block of West Madison
Street, about a block away from the Office of Emergency Management and
Communications.
Someone approached the man from behind and demanded his wallet. The
24-year-old tried to fight off the attacker but was shot in the process.
He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with a gunshot wound
to the thigh.
