Man charged with assaulting 14-year-old girl

A 20-year-old Chicago man is accused of sexually assaulting and threatening to shoot a 14-year-old girl last summer inside a laundry room at a housing project on the Far South Side.
Dantrell D. Sawyer is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault for the Aug. 29, 2012 attack. He was arrested Friday at his home in the 13300 block of South Corliss Avenue.
Sawyer allegedly approached the girl while she was walking to her grandmother's home near East 130th Street and South Indiana Avenue and asked if he could use her cell phone.
The girl allowed Sawyer to use her phone and then Sawyer asked if she wanted him to buy her some shoes.
The girl declined, but Sawyer said he needed to walk to the nearby housing project to get money for the shoes.
The girl went with Sawyer to the housing project in the 13000 block of South Daniel Drive, where Sawyer allegedly forced her into a laundry room and shut the door.
The lights were off, and Sawyer allegedly pressed a hard object into the girl's back that he told her was a gun before he allegedly assaulted her.
Court documents quoted Sawyer as telling the girl, "I got a gun. You better not say anything. If you do, I'm gonna shoot you."
Sawyer left, and the girl was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released
