Newtown police and Connecticut state troopers swarmed 11 Church Hill Road at about noon, Monday, set up a perimeter and even called for a police dog before learning that a report of a man with a gun at the dental office had been a false alarm, officials said.
It was a scary few minutes, but Newtown police eventually determined what had been a report of an armed man had been a miscommunication between office workers, police said
When police arrived, they set up a perimeter because they were unsure what was happening and a police dog also was called in case the reported armed man was outside the office.

At about 6 p.m., a news alert flashed across television screens across the region saying there had been a child abduction in Newtown.
It turned out the news alert had been falsely issued and was due to a "mechanical failure," local officials said state officials told them.

A Brookwood Drive homeowner was doing outside yard work when an old grenade was spotted shortly after 1 p.m., Friday, setting off a police response, Newtown police said.
The area was blocked off and state responders were called, police said.
The Connecticut Police Emergency Services unit arrived about two hours later, determined the item was not an active grenade and disposed of the item without incident, police said. The grenade appeared to have been hollowed out, police said.

The body of Stanley Lupienski, the 86-year-old Brookfield man accused of shooting a nurse at Danbury Hospital in March and who died at Hartford Hospital on Sunday, will be cremated
Lupienski had been moved from a psychiatric ward in Middletown last week after suffering a massive stroke that paralyzed his entire right side, according to his nephew. Years earlier, Lupienski had requested not to be resuscitated if something were to happen, his nephew said
Stanley Lupienski, who lived in Brooks Quarry, a retirement community in Brookfield, was charged with assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit after firing a gun in Danbury Hospital on March 2. Lupienski was brought to the hospital by Newtown police officers the day before, who found him in a delirious state in the police parking lot.
While being treated, Lupienski allegedly pulled a gun from his gown and fired at hospital workers, wounding nurse Andrew Hull, who survived the shooting Nov. 1, 2010
(No mention of an autopsy and of course cremation destroys any evidence. Was this old man a test run for the Sandy Hook murders?)
And this coincidence involving Lupienski-
Fire at Valley Field South: In contrast to the Morgan Drive blaze, this fire burned the home to the ground and no one noticed. Workers arriving to make repairs on the house, which was set to be sold, found only smoldering rubble. No one was home at the time and no one was hurt. The residence also held the distinction of once belonging to a woman who when she was alive was good friends with Lupienski. For years after Vicki Julian's death, Lupienski would go over to the home to feed the cats and tend to the bird feeder. A few days before the fire broke out, Lupienski died of a stroke.
