75 years for shooting that killed girl, 8, wounded her cousin

One of two men convicted in the slaying of an 8-year-old girl and the wounding of her then-7-year-old cousin in August 2010 was sentenced to 75 years in prison today.
Steshawn Brisco, 20, was sentenced today by Judge Stanley Sacks in the slaying of Tanaja Stokes and the shooting of her cousin, Ariana Jones. His codefendant, Marcus Cocroft, was sentenced late last year to 55 years in prison.
The slayings took place Aug. 10, 2010, outside the family's home in the 10700 block of South Indiana Avenue when Brisco and Cocroft rode up on bicycles and started shooting at a group of teenagers nearby. At the time, the girls were jumping rope and practicing cheerleading moves outside the home. One bullet struck Tanaja in the head, and Ariana was shot in the head but survived and testified at the trial.
