Students host art sale for slain classmate's funeral
Still reeling from the death of a classmate in a shooting last week, students
at ACE Tech Charter High School in Chicago hosted an art sale Tuesday to raise
money for her funeral.
About 120 students donated drawings, photographs, paintings and sculptures
they made for their art classes to the sale in honor of Porshe Foster, 15, who
was killed Nov. 26 in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The sale raised about $500,
art teacher Ivonne Cruz said.
"I thought what a really good way to teach the students how art can heal,"
said Cruz, who organized the sale. "I think the kids feel good about it."
Foster was with three other people in the backyard of a home near West 70th
Street and South Campbell Avenue when a gunman opened fire. She was shot in the
back and pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center
in Oak Lawn.
Matthew 16 (King James Version)
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say , It will be fair weather: for the sky is red .3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring . O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
