A convicted felon was expected in bond court today after he was arrested trying to burglarize a Lincoln Park home on Tuesday.
Matthew Lewis, 32, of the 6600 block of South Drexel Avenue was charged with attempted residential burglary.
The man was arrested after police responded to a burglar alarm at about 11:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of North Wayne Avenue.
Police officers were patrolling the area when they were notified that a man was knocking on doors and asking residents who answered that he was trying to locate a particular person.
Police were on their way to the rear of the home where the alarm had been triggered when they saw the suspect hurrying out a rear porch.
An officer identified himself and ordered the suspect to stop, but the man refused and tried to escape by jumping over a fence.
The officer pursued the suspect while sharing a description of the suspect and and his route over a police radio. Officers arrested him a short distance away.
Police said a pry bar was still wedged in the rear of the home the man had entered
