A second man has been charged in the September beating and stabbing of a Cook
County prosecutor who tried to intervene when he saw two men harassing a couple
they thought was gay.
Luis Cotto, 23, of the 3700 block of North Kimball
Avenue, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.
Cotto’s co-defendant, Edgar Diaz, 21, has
been jailed since September on the same charges.
The 31-year-old
prosecutor was on his way to meet a friend to fish along the lakefront at about
7 p.m. on Sept. 14 when he saw two people shouting at the couple and told them
to stop. The defendants beat him with their hands and feet and cut him with a
beer bottle.
The prosecutor was cut near the
left eye, on his side and under his right arm.
