Francisco Merino, of the 900 block of West 19th
Street, was shot multiple times on Sept. 27.
Merino was shot about 8 p.m. that evening in the 1800 block of South Morgan
StreetMerino was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m.
A witness told police he heard several gunshots while sitting at a window in his home and saw a gunman in the passenger’s seat of a newer, white pickup truck pointing a gun at Merino, who was lying on the ground.
After the pickup sped away, the witness ran to the victim and saw him shot in the face and body. The witness’s father, who also heard the gunfire and rushed outside, placed Merino into the back seat of his station wagon with the intention of driving him to the hospital.
A Chicago Fire Department ambulance got to the scene and took Merino to Stroger in critical condition, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the face, two to the the chest, and two to the buttocks
