Two children, 5 and 6, who had been removed from their mother because of
abuse and neglect were beaten, burned and bitten last month by their
grandmother, who had been appointed their guardian.
Goldine
Williams, 47, of the 7500 block of South Kingston Avenue, was ordered held on
$200,000 today on charges of aggravated battery to a child.
Williams hit the boy, 6, with a plastic sword cover from his Halloween
costume, beat him with an extension cord and burned him with a hair iron all
over his body.
She also burned her
granddaughter, 5, and bit and scratched her.
The children told police they were forced to eat cat food.
The abuse occurred on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 in the 1400 block of
East 68th Street in Chicago. The abuse was reported to police
on Nov. 2.
State child welfare authorities have had prior contact with the family.
In December of 2008, DCFS received a call on its child abuse hotline about
the biological mother of the two children.
When claims of neglect and abuse against the mother were substantiated later
that month, the children were placed into the care of Williams.
DCFS provided services to help Williams care for them, and the court granted
Williams guardianship of the two on Dec. 13
