A Canadian truck driver in town visiting relatives was shot and killed during an
apparent robbery attempt in the Englewood neighborhood on the city's South Side.
Officers found the 39-year-old victim unresponsive inside a semi tractor
truck parked in a vacant lot in the 5800 block of South Aberdeen Street at about
8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim was sitting inside the semi when he was approached by several men, at least one of them armed with a handgun, who demanded his money.
During the robbery, the victim, later identified as Gary Clark, was shot in
the right hip.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where
he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said that Clark, who lives in Courtice, Ontario, a small town
about 37 miles east of Toronto, had driven his semi to Chicago to visit
relatives.
