A 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead after being pulled from the North Branch
of the Chicago River in the North Park neighborhood.
The
call came in at about 12:27 p.m that a person had gone into the the river at
3035 W. Foster Ave..
The woman was found by divers and she
was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in critical condition but was later
pronounced dead.
The woman was identified as Brenda Penn, according to the Cook County medical
examiner's office. The office said the woman was apparently
homeless.
Members of the marine unit along with Chicago Fire Department
personnel responded to the call.
Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry
Langford said some reportedly saw a woman go into the water but they did not see
the woman resurface.
