A University of Illinois at Chicago student was robbed at gunpoint yesterday off
campus in the Near West Side community, according to the university.
The
woman was walking in the 500 block of South Oakley Boulevard about 9:18 p.m.
Thursday when she was confronted by the robber, who showed her a blue handgun
and demanded her cell phone and messenger bag.
The student complied and the robber fled north.
She was not hurt and her bag was recovered later by police on Van Buren Street.
The robber was described as being a black man between
the ages of 20 and 25, 5-foot-9, with a dark complexion and short black hair. He
was wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts.
