Chicago Police killed a gunman late Friday night in the far South Side.
The shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of 110th Street
and South Wentworth Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood.
People at a repass ceremony/block party called police to report people
with guns, Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden.
Camden said the men weren't invited to the party and party goers pointed them
out to responding officers from a Calumet District tactical team, who saw the
two armed men and gave chase.
One jumped out of the car and ran after one of the men while the other stayed
in the car and drove down the block a little bit before joining the chase,
Camden said.
The first officer fired a shot after the man he was chasing turned with the
weapon in his hand, Camden said. He missed, and the man dropped the gun and was
arrested.
The second man, who the other officer was chasing, also turned and began to
point the weapon, Camden said. The officer opened fire, striking and killing the
man, who Camden said was in his 20s.
Both officers yelled at the men to drop their guns while they were chasing
them
