A Chicago woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after leaving her
21/2-month-old daughter alone in the bathtub, where she drowned.
Dorota Duda, 30, called 911 about 10 a.m. Wednesday from her home in the
Belmont Cragin area. The child, Julia Duda, was pronounced dead at
10:39 a.m. at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center.
Police have said the mother left the baby alone while she made coffee.
Duda was arrested Wednesday afternoon. A Cook County judge on
Saturday ordered her held on $200,000 bond.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is continuing to
investigate neglect allegations related to the incident.
Another child who had been living at the home in the 2800 block of North
Nagle Avenue was sent to live with relatives for the protection of the child's
well-being. The agency had not had contact with the family before
the girl's death
