Jose Rios, of the 3000 block of North Kimball Avenue, faces two counts each of attempted first degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer.
He was also charged with not having a valid firearm owner identification card and being an armed habitual criminal.
Rios is accused of shooting at Shakespeare District officers about 10 p.m. Thursday.
The officers approached him in the 2900 block of North Allen Avenue, also in the Logan Square neighborhood, because they observed him holding a pistol.

They didn't return fire because they weren't shot at in the first place. I grew up in this city and, yes, there are a lot of good Chicago cops out there just doing his/her job to pay the bills, nothing more, nothing less.
