Tattoo leads to charge in June fatal shooting

A distinctive neck tattoo led to the identification of a 23-year-old man in a June shooting in a Walgreens parking lot that left one man dead and his uncle critically wounded.
Demonte Williams was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the June 4 shooting that killed Willie Stallworth, 30, and wounded his uncle, Michael Stallworth, 54.
Prosecutors said a witness was able to give police a detailed description, including Williams’ neck tattoo depicting a red, five-pointed star with a line running over his Adam’s apple.
Williams was arrested Sunday outside his home in the 7600 block of South Hamilton Avenue and then identified in a police lineup by both the witness and Michael Stallworth.
Prosecutors said Williams, armed with a handgun, walked to the parking lot of a Walgreens store in the 7100 block of South Western Avenue to do “a lick” a robbery.
At about 10:25 p.m., when Willie Stallworth got out of a car to make a cell phone call, Williams got into the front passenger side and pointed the handgun at the uncle, Engebretson said. The two struggled briefly over the weapon and then Williams shot the older man in the chest. Williams then got out of the car and shot Willie Stallworth in the chest and fled.
Willie Stallworth was pronounced dead on the scene. His uncle was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. He survived the shooting but still has the bullet lodged in right side of his chest
