A man died when he tried to cross the tracks at the California station on the Blue
Line and came into contact with the third rail.
The incident happened about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday on the southbound tracks of
the station at 2211 N. California Ave..
The man's name had not been released, pending notification of family. He was
in his 30s.
Witnesses told police the man was trying to cross from one platform to the
other and accidentally touched the third rail, a Shakespeare District police
lieutenant said. He was dead on the scene.
