A 5-year-old girl was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in the Lawndale
neighborhood on the city's West Side.
The child was hit by a green
four-door Pontiac Grand Am just before 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Millard
Avenue, Chicago police said.
The child was rushed
to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to the
Cook County medical examiner's office. A spokesman confirmed the girl's death,
but withheld her identity.
Police had only a vague description of the
driver, but said the Grand Am had sustained front end damage in the collision.
