A carjacking suspect clad in a tuxedo and headed for a prom was arrested
Friday when the victim of the crime spotted the stolen vehicle at a West Side
McDonald's.
A judge set bail at $150,000 for Lorenzo Bracey in court today.
Bracey, 20, of the 300 block of South Kilbourn Avenue, was charged with
aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession
of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial
number, all of which are felonies.
Bracey was also charged with three misdemeanors: possession of firearm
ammunition without a valid FOID card, possession of a firearm without a valid
FOID card, and possession of cannabis.
During the
hearing, Bracey was wearing an un-tucked, long-sleeved white dress shirt with no
tie and a black and grey vest over it. His pants were about the same color as
the shirt and he was not wearing a jacket.
Bracey attends Malcolm X College and graduated from Senn High School on the
North Side.
Bracey is accused of taking a maroon-colored 1997 Ford Expedition from a man
at gunpoint about 9 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of South Independence
Boulevard near a BP
gas station.
He fled the scene but the SUV was seen again later the same day by the
victim about 7 p.m. at a McDonald's in the 3200 block of West Roosevelt
Road.
The victim saw the car, called police and Bracey, wearing a fancy white shirt
and a grayish silver tuxedo suit with a vest, was positively identified at the
scene as the person who carjacked him.
"When questioned about his clothing he made reference to going to a prom that
evening".
A suspected Ecstasy pill and one weapon, which Bracey
said he had for protection, were recovered on him during his arrest
