Chicago police said Andre Alejandro, 22, shot the 13-year-old boy in the face inside a pizza and liquor store in the 5100 block of North Broadway at about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The boy, Ivan Alanis of the 7400 block of North Western Avenue, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead
Alejandro, of the 1400 block of West Chase Avenue, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the boy's slaying, police said in a news release.
Police said Alanis was with his older sister and her friend inside the pizzeria when they encountered Alejandro, who began yelling gang slogans at the boy. That led to a verbal altercation that ended when Alejandro left, police said.
But police said Alejandro, a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, returned to the front of the business with a handgun and fired into the business, wounding the boy, who was eating pizza.
