Man charged with burglary after caught with cash, smokes and liquor

A 47-year-old man was charged with burglary this morning after police found him stuffing cigarettes into his sock and holding two bottles of liquor.
At about 4 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm at Joe's Food and Liquor on the 5800 block of West Fullerton Avenue.
When they arrived, officers discovered a window had been broken with a large rock and two registers had been opened. Canvassing the area, officers found the proceeds of the robbery on the ground on the 2400 block of North Monitor Avenue. Next, officers saw a man walking down a gangway of a building on the same block.
The man, who was blocked in by a locked gate, started stuffing cigarettes into his sock. He also was holding a bottle of Vodka and Gin. In his hand was a wallet with small bills so stuffed it could not fold.
When officers approached the man he told them he had found the items and money on the ground and thought it was his lucky day. The robber added he was walking to his home in Franklin Park.
The robber was arrested and identified as Daniel Ludmann of the 3200 block of George Street.
Ludmann, a convicted felon, was charged this morning with one count of burglary with forcible entry and scheduled to appear in court Wednesday
