Police have issued a community alert about a group of men who have been
targeting the elderly on the South Side, gaining their confidence, entering
their homes and then robbing them.
The robbers claim they are utility workers, tree cutters or construction
contractors and say they are there to make repairs to electric wires, water
lines or something else on the property, according to the alert.
Once inside, one of the robbers distracts the victim while the other searches
for things to take. Sometimes there have been two robbers, other
times three.
The robbers are described as Hispanic, 30 to 50, with heavy builds and dark
hair.
The robberies occurred in the afternoon hours in
the 10500 block of South Talman Avenue; the 12200 block of South Loomis Avenue;
the 8700 block of South Euclid Avenue; the 7700
block of South Throop Avenue; the 3400 block of West 115th Street, the 13100
block of South Escanaba Avenue; and the 11500 block of South Avenue H.
The vehicles used in the robberies were described as a black SUV, a minivan
and a pick-up truck.
