Chicago police released a South Side man who fatally shot a man earlier this week, saying that the shooting occurred during an attempted home invasion at the man's Englewood home.
The unidentified 24-year-old man shot and killed Darryl Turner, 28, at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday just outside his single-family home in the 5800 block of South Shields Avenue.
Authorities said that Turner first approached the man seeking drugs. The man rebuffed Turner, who walked away, but returned moments later, armed with a pistol.
Officials said that Turner then tried to force his way into the man's home. The man retrieved his own handgun and opened fire on the intruder.
Turner, of the 6700 block of South Parnell Avenue, was dead at the scene.
Prosecutors later declined to file any criminal charges against the homeowner and he was released from custody this morning.
Turner was killed in the same neighborhood where 80-year-old tavern owner Homer Wright shot and wounded an intruder last month.
The Army veteran's subsequent arrest on weapons charges were later dropped

Home invasions are increasing rapidly. These thugs know that there is less of a chance getting caught burglarizing a home then robbing businesses.
So stay safe, be vigilant, install deadbolts and keep alarm activated. If you don't have an alarm system try www.homesecurityalarms.net for the most affordable monitored alarm system in the nation.
Or shoot the perpetual.
