Update:
Killed was Luprentice Mathis, 26, according to the Cook County medical
examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. on the 400 block of North Lawler
Avenue.
Mathis was sitting in a parked car when three men walked up to the vehicle
and opened fire, striking him multiple times.
Mathis, of the 500 block of North Lawler Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe the slaying was gang related, noting that Mathis had a gang
affiliation
