A 62-year-old man has died 11 days after he was beaten in a home invasion at a
senior building in Old Town.
The death Thursday
night of Harold Howell, of the Evergreen Tower II apartments, 1343 N. Cleveland
Ave., was declared a homicide after an autopsy that determined he died from
multiple injuries following an assault.
Howell was declared dead at 11:12 p.m. Thursday at Northwestern
Memorial Hospital after suffering multiple rib fractures and head trauma
Police were called to Howell’s apartment about midnight April 8 after he was
attacked sometime between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.
Officers discovered Howell in the doorway of
his apartment, suffering multiple beating injuries.
Before he
had to be taken to Northwestern, Howell was able to tell officers he had been
beaten up and robbed in his apartment, and several items taken.
But because Howell had to be sedated due to his serious injuries,
detectives were unable to interview him to get more details about the attack
