Wayne Dearmond, 29, was arrested Saturday morning after the alleged botched robbery outside a liquor store on Milwaukee Avenue near Ashland Avenue in the Noble Square neighborhood, prosecutors said. He faces charges of aggravated attempted armed robbery, and, in a brief court appearance Sunday, Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered him held on $300,000 bond.
Around 10 a.m. Saturday, Dearmond, of the 2800 block of South Trumbull Avenue, walked into the liquor store and tried to buy a six-pack of beer and a cigar before telling the clerk he didn’t have enough money. He tried to leave with the goods, and threatened to shoot a man who snatched the beer and cigar from him before two men shoved him out of the store.Dearmond then approached 48-year-old woman in a nearby parking lot, pointed a plastic toy gun at her and ordered her to give him $2. Seeing one of the men from the liquor store approaching, he told the woman that if she didn’t give him the $2 he would kill the man.
Dearmond tried to walk away, but he didn’t get far before he was tackled by “a citizen,”
