A 14-year-old boy is accused of trying to rob a 50-year-old man of money and an iPad while brandishing a BB gun at a Lincoln Park neighborhood pottery studio Wednesday night.
The boy entered Glazed Expressions, 717 W. Armitage Ave., and told the 50-year-old staffer: “I want your iPad,’’.
He then drew a gun, pointed it at him and said: “I need money -- I need $500,’’.
The man agreed to go with him to an ATM to withdraw the money but once they got outside, the victim ran away, police said. When he looked behind him he saw the boy fleeing southbound on Burling Street.
The victim called police about 10:45 p.m. and officers responded to a call of a person with a gun. They found a boy matching his description and wearing a blue hoodie and stopped him in the 1600 block of North Cleveland Street.
Officers searching him recovered what appeared to be a black semi automatic handgun but they later learned it was a BB gun. He was taken into custody and back to the business where the victim identified him
