Bail denied for teen charged in Avondale slaying

A 17-year-old boy was denied bail today in the apparent gang-related slaying of another teen last month in the Northwest Side’s Avondale neighborhood.
Christopher Perez, appeared for his bond hearing before Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesel, clad in a red T-shirt and blue jeans, charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 18 death of 17-year-old Edgar Delgado.
About 7:30 p.m. that day, Delgado was walking next to a witness, who was riding a bicycle, westbound on Roscoe Street when they approached Monticello Avenue.
As the two approached the corner, three cars — a black Chevrolet Blazer, a smaller red car and a gray four-door car — were northbound on Monticello, prosecutors said, and Delgado yelled out, “Oh shit, the Folks!”
The witness told Delgado to run, and he ran south on Monticello, while the witness was hit by the gray car when he tried to cross the street on his bicycle.
The witness, who saw that Perez was a passenger in that car, got up and ran away.
As the witness then turned into an alley near Monticello, he looked back and saw several people standing at Monticello and Roscoe.
The witness saw one person with an “outstretched arm” in Delgado’s direction, and as the witness continued running, he heard about four or five gunshots.
While Delgado was running south on Monticello Perez fired shots from a gun repeatedly at him. Delgado eventually tripped and fell to the ground, and Perez caught up to him.
Perez then fired more shots at Delgado, striking him in the chest and back.
Delgado as taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead
