Son accused of attacking father in fatal beating

A Rogers Park neighborhood man has been charged with beating his father so badly Tuesday the 55-year-old man died this morning at a hospital in Evanston.
Richard Lengyel, of the 1700 block of West Albion Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston after being assaulted at him home Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The victim suffered multiple broken ribs, swelling and bleeding on the brain, but before lapsing into unconsciousness he was able to tell hospital authorities that his son had attacked him.
Police were summoned and his son, Steven Paul Lengyel, 22, was arrested Wednesday morning.
Steven Lengyel, who also lives at the Albion address, was charged with one count of aggravated domestic battery, police said. It was not immediately known if charges will be upgraded.
