A 60-year-old woman riding in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed by cement truck near her South Side home a few blocks from U.S. Cellular Field.
Killed was Joyce Thomas, of the 200 block of West Pershing Road, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Thomas was struck in a crosswalk near her home on West Pershing Road at about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday when the truck's driver blew through a stop sign,
The driver, Michael Carter, 31, of south suburban Glenwood, was ticketed for negligent driving, failure to stop at a stop sign and failing to show due care for a pedestrian in the roadway
