A homeowner in the Englewood neighborhood says he wrestled a gun from two robbers and shot one of them early this morning.
Perry Pearce told reporters that the robbers apparently cut a hole in his fence and confronted him as he was leaving for work around 6:45 a.m.
He said the robbers struggled with him outside the home for about 20 minutes, hitting him in the head with a gun and finally forcing him back into the home.
The robbers told him to take them to his safe, according to police. When one of the men tried to open it, Pearce said he started struggling with one of the robbers, got the gun and fired. The other robber then fought with him and finally ran off, police said.
Neighbors clapped and called out "hero" has Perry came out of his house later in the morning. He raised a glass in a salute.
