Gunshots were fired in the direction of Chicago police officers late this afternoon as they were breaking a up a fight in the South Side's Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
No officers were hurt, and none of them returned fire.
The officers responded to a call of a "battery in progress" about 5:20 p.m. near West 78th and South Ada Streets, about a block west of Saint Sabina Catholic Church, to break up a scuffle between a group of girls.
As they responded to that call, shots were fired in their direction from down the street.
They said it's unclear whether any officers were targeted, and are looking into the possibility that the gunman was aiming for someone else.
A TEC-9 gun, believed to be the weapon used during the shooting, was found near the scene.
