Bail denied for 2 men in 2009 double slaying

A Cook County judge denied bail Saturday for two men charged in a 2009 drive-by shooting that killed two other men on Chicago’s South Side.
Barron C. Brown, 23, and Jamie Monden, 27, were allegedly driving around looking for rival gang members to shoot at about 1:40 a.m. on July 5, 2009, when they spotted a white Lexus in the 1200 block of East 63rd Street, according to court documents.
Thinking that people from another gang were inside, Brown allegedly fired several shots into the vehicle. The shooting killed both Leundra P. Straight, 22, of North Liberty, Iowa, and Loweton L. Harmon, 26, of the 9100 block of South Parnell Avenue in Chicago.
Brown, of the 6500 block of South Drexel Avenue in Chicago, was arrested near Atlanta on Sept. 1, according to court documents. Monden was arrested Thursday near his home in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood.
A third person who was in the Lexus and survived the shooting allegedly identified Brown as the shooter, according to court documents. Both Brown and Monden are charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
