An off-duty Chicago police officer was injured during an attempted robbery in the Oakland neighborhood early this morning.
At 1:46 a.m., two men approached the officer in the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue and tried to rob him, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.
One of the attackers hit the officer on the head with a brick, prompting the officer to fire at him, Gaines said.
No one was shot, and the attackers ran from the scene.
The officer was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
No one was in custody and the Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
