Homeless man dies week after beating

A homeless man who was beaten on the street by three men died early this morning from his injuries, officials said.

Scott Butvilas, 32, who was found beaten on the 3400 block of

West Chicago Avenue

on July 5, police said.

Butvilas was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital where he was taken after he was found, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office

An autopsy conducted today determined that Butvilas died of multiple injuries caused by the assault and ruled his death a homicide, according to the office.

On July 5, at about 1 p.m., Butvilas was standing on a corner on the 3400 block of

West Chicago Avenue

when he was attacked by three men between 16 and 19 years of age, police said.

The men began to punch and kick Butvilas until he fell to the ground. After Butvilas fell to the ground, the men continued to kick and punch the man until the suspects fled.
