A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder, accused of shooting another man whose body was found on a lawn in Little Village Sunday.
Prosecutors said in court today that Jose Diaz shot Victor Ramirez, 29, after Ramirez went to his girlfriend's house in the 2800 block of South Homan Avenue at about 1 a.m. Sunday and found her there with Diaz's brother.
Ramirez began pounding on the windows of the house with a tire iron, and the man inside called Diaz, who arrived a short time later, said Assistant State's Atty. Chris Costello.
Diaz allegedy shot Ramirez in both hands as he tried to run, then shot him in the back several times, according to the prosecutor.
A witness then saw Diaz running from the scene with the gun still in hand, the prosecutor said. He allegedly later told others that he killed Ramirez, and when police searched the garage of the apartment where Diaz was staying, they found a gun that matched the caliber of shell casings found at the shooting scene, Costello said.
Records show Diaz is currently on bail in an aggravated DUI case. He was ordered held without bail today.
