An 8-year-old girl died early this morning after she was struck on her bicycle Tuesday afternoon by an SUV in a hit-and-run outside her Southwest Side home, police said.
Killed was Mariela Crisostomo, of the 3300 block of West 62nd Place in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Mariela was riding her bicycle in the street at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when the gray or silver-colored SUV traveling east on 62nd Place struck her, said Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
The impact of the collision knocked the girl underneath a parked vehicle, she said.
The critically-injured girl was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 4:08 a.m. this morning, a medical examiner's spokesman said.
Police hadn't made any arrests in the case.
