- A city worker has been charged with driving under the influence and other violations after allegedly hitting eight people, including a toddler, Saturday on the Near North Side, police said.Dwight Washington, 61, of the 1800 block of North Linder Avenue, was charged Sunday with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence and causing bodily harm and two counts of misdemeanor DUI. He was also ticketed with transporting and carrying alcohol, failure to reduce speed and negligent driving, police said.Washington, a Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation worker since June 2006, was driving a city pickup truck Saturday when the vehicle went out of control near Cedar and Rush streets and struck a group of pedestrians, police said.Some of the injured were participating in a photo shoot depicting a wedding party and were posing on a corner when they were struck by the Ford F150 pickup truck, police said.
A fire official said eight people were taken to various hospitals; four in serious-to-critical condition, two in fair-to-serious condition and two in fair-to-good condition.
Police, however, said seven people were injured, including a 1-year-old girl who was listed in good condition.Washington is scheduled to appear in bond court later today.
