The woman's body was found just before midnight Wednesday along railroad tracks near the intersection of Avers Avenue and 23rd Street, authorities said.
Officials said it appeared the victim suffered head trauma and was possibly dumped at the location. An autopsy Thursday determined the still-unidentified woman died from blunt force trauma in an assault and her death was a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
On Friday police released a community alert asking for help in identifying the woman, who was described as Asian, about 50-60 years old, 4-foot-9, 98 pounds, with brown eyes, black and gray hair, and a light olive complexion. She has a mole under her right eye and two gold-capped upper teeth, and was wearing a red short-sleeve T-shirt with white and blue stripes, red athletic cotton pants, and no shoes.
