A West Englewood man and three other males were arrested early this morning after another man was robbed of his iPhone in the Near North neighborhood, according to police.
The incident occurred on the 1200 block of North Clark Street just before 3 a.m., according to Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.
After taking the iPhone, the four suspects fled on foot before being caught by police a short time later, O’Brien said.
Kenneth Parron, 18, of the 6500 block of South Oakley Avenue, was charged with one count of simple assault and is due in court on June 13.
The other three males are minors and each cited in juvenile delinquency petitions with robbery, O’Brien said.
Police officials have said that smartphones and other high-end devices increasingly lure would-be thieves, particularly on public transit where the frequent stops can allow for a quick getaway. In March, Sally Katona-King, 68, died after being shoved down the stairs at the Fullerton “L” stop by a fleeing male suspect who’d just stolen another woman’s iPhone
