A 14-year-old girl was shot in the back and critically injured during a fight in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side early this morning, police said.
The girl remained in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital this afternoon, police said.
At 2:53 a.m., the girl was walking with a group of people in the 5100 block of West Crystal Street, when a fight broke out between two young men or boys in the group, according to a police report.
One of the two took out a gun and fired, striking the girl in the back, police said.
The girl did not appear to have been the target of the shooting,
