A 14-year-old boy was charged today just a day after police said he shot a 12-year-old boy Tuesday afternoon outside of the victim’s South Side neighborhood school.
The shooting took place at about 2:45 p.m. at Cook Elementary School, 8150 S. Bishop St. The victim was shot in the back and rushed to a hospital in serious condition, police said.
The boy, whose name was being withheld because he's a juvenile, was cited in a juvenile delinquency petition with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of attempted first-degree murder, according to police.
Authorities couldn’t confirm when or where the teen would appear before a Juvenile Court judge.
A source said the boy suspected in the shooting formerly attended the school. Witnesses told police he approached a crowd in front of the building and fired a gun four times.
