An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and wounded a man after he witnessed an armed robbery on the West Side this morning, police said.
The incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. in a backyard in the 1800 block of South Komensky Avenue, said Chicago Police Officer Michael Sullivan.
The off-duty officer saw the robbery taking place and shot the suspect, Sullivan said.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, and the Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident.
