A Northwest Side man has been charged with trying to arrange the murder of his wife’s lover after finding evidence of their affair on videotape, prosecutors said today.
Jaroslaw Kozak, 41, is charged with one count of solicitation of murder-for-hire and was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bond by Circuit Judge Ramon Ocasio III.
Kozak, of the 3200 block of North Newland Avenue, was arrested Wednesday after he handed an undercover Chicago police officer posing as a hit man $400 as a down payment, prosecutors said. He also gave the officer a piece of paper with the 52-year-old potential victim’s name and address and agreed to pay a total of $3,000 once the hit had been carried out.
Assistant State’s Attorney Joe Cook said Kozak plotted the murder after finding a videotape of the target and his wife engaged in sex. His wife and the man had a prior relationship, according to the prosecutor.
The undercover officer met with Kozak several times over the last three months and made audio and video recordings of their conversations, Cook said.
Kozak, a heating and air-conditioning technician with no criminal history, has a 9-year-old son and lives with his wife, who is a stay-at-home mom, his attorney said.
Kozak faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
